Disable Microsoft NetMeeting if you have it

Microsoft NetMeeting will disable Direct3D functionality if it is running. If the NetMeeting icon is in the system tray (Figure 1), verify that Remote Desktop Sharing is not enabled. To do this, perform the following steps:

Right-click the NetMeeting icon in the system tray.

Left-click Turn off Remote Desktop Sharing.

Attempt to launch WinDVD again.

If the error still occurs, proceed to the next step.

Click the Start button, point to Programs, point to Accessories, point to Communications (or to Internet Tools on some systems), and then click NetMeeting.

Cick the Tools menu and then click Options.

Click the Video tab, and in the Sending and receiving video section, click to uncheck Automatically receive video at the start of each call.

Click OK to apply the settings.

Click the Tools menu and then click Options.

Click the Video tab, and in the Sending and receiving video section, click to check Automatically receive video at the start of each call.

Click OK to apply the settings.

Click OK to exit the NetMeeting software.

Hope this helps.

The DVD error has to do with video. Video cards have an 'overlay' feature which is sort of like having 2 displays in one.

The overlay is like a separate screen display with it's own colour and display resolution. The overlay 'screen' can be placed anywhere over the regular computer display and can also fill the screen.

Video players are usually set up to use the overlay feature in your video card, but many players have the option to use the regular display to view the video. What's the difference? Well, using the overlay is less taxing on the computer, but using the regular display allows for custom display enhancements. For example, video players made by Intervideo and Cyberlink offer special colour enhancements for videos.

Overlays have limitations just like your regular computer screen. The limitations vary from video card to video card. In your video player's display settings, try disabling overlays, or if it's disabled, then try enabling it. (Your video card settings might have options regarding overlays too.)

The message could also have been displayed if you tried to run two or more videos at the same time. There's also the chance that an MPEG video codec is faulty or it is causing problems with your video card driver. Try updating your directX drivers (a new set just came out - go to Microsoft's web site) and video card drivers. Also, try using another application to view videos to make sure that the problem isn't with that particular program.
