I've been reading a lot of review online and either snow leopard wins slightly or window 7 wins slightly or they tie. Which operating system has more value, better hardware, cool features etc?

Mac by far. Here's why:
1. 8 viruses, not millions
2. It is actually cheaper to get a Mac than to buy a PC + extra things (hard drive space, RAM, etc.) that make it close to Mac standards
3. The entire computer is in the monitor; no big computer tower.
4. Many more can be found on Apple's website (http://www.apple.com/mac)
By the way, it's Mac OS X 10.6, Mac OS X Snow Leopard, or Mac OS X SL. Sorry, I just get a little perfectionist when it comes to Apple :P

On your (non-Apple) desktop, Windows 7 will almost certainly perform better. Since you can only legally install OS X on Apple computers, there are only drivers for the limited amount of hardware that Apple uses. On an Apple computer, it's just a matter of personal preference. Mac OS X has better power management than Windows (wake up from sleep is near instantaneous). Windows gets better framerates in games (the Mac graphics drivers are optimized for CAD- stability over speed). Windows has is more customizable interface but Mac OS X is more flexible under the hood.

The reviews are correct. Windows 7 is better than vista and about tied with mac osx. The main mac advantage though, 1000000 windows malware/viruses vs. 8 mac Trojans.

Mac definitely wins as far as I'm concerned. I've used windows for years and had multiple hard drives crash on me. I've been using Mac for the last 3 years now and have never had a problem with it. It's very user friendly and the features like time machine and dashboard are fantastic.

IMHO, Windows 7 is the better OS. More available software and it will run on any hardware (HP, Dell, Apple, Sony, etc). It's far less limiting and therefore a better OS.
