The only thing that needs to be compared is performance and performance alone.
Make sure to explain yourself.

It depends on your intended use. If you are looking for a gaming laptop, the Asus may perform a little better occasionally. If you are looking for a good all around laptop, the Lenovo is better.

RAM

The Asus has 6GB of RAM and the Lenovo has 4GB of RAM, however, the latter has DDR3 RAM whereas the aforementioned has DDR2 which is slower, but the increased capacity would make up for that and then some. You could compare the two at 6GB and 5GB respectively at DDR2 speeds

Winner: Asus

Processor

The Asus has a Intel Core 2 Duo clocked at 2.53 GHz which means that it can hold a speed of 2.53 GHz under load on both cores, The Lenovo has an Intel I7-720QM clocked at 1.6 GHz which means that it can hold a speed at no less that 1.6 GHz on all four cores, however it has TurboBoost technology that transfers the power from the inactive cores to the active ones and can hold a speed of 2.66 GHz on two cores and 2.8 on one. The latter allows for much more efficient multitasking and in some cases, more proficient gaming. Also, the i7 is a much newer processor that would hold more re-sale value.

Winner: Lenovo

Graphics

The Asus has a Nvidia GeForce GTX 260M card, the Lenovo has a Nvidia GTX 240M, the latter is a less powerful graphics card which is the main reason why the Asus is more suited for gaming. Both cards have 1GB of dedicated memory.

Winner: Asus

Storage

Both have 500GB of storage at 5400rpm

Winner: Tie

Display

The Asus has a 17.1" screen and the Lenovo has a 15.6" screen both displaying at the same max resolution. The smaller screen allows for better portability and better battery life.

Winner: Lenovo

Battery life

The Asus is rated at 1.9 hours at minimum power settings and the Lenovo is rated at 3.5 hours at minimum settings.

Winner: Lenovo

Price

Asus at $869, Lenovo at $993.

Winner: Depends on your use, but the Lenovo is, in my opinion, the better of the two for the price. Therefore, The Lenovo is the winner.

Final word

If it were me, I would buy the Lenovo because it WILL be faster and perform better under normal circumstances. The Lenovo is the better value and overall, it holds the better hardware. Once again, The Lenovo IS the better computer.

If you'll manage to pay for a Mac, I might opt for that, for the causes you have got recounted. And if there are methods that aren't on Mac that you wish to have, you'll nonetheless run them making use of a PC emulator. Most web dealers used to make use of PCs, however now the bulk are relocating over to Mac, as there may be a few application that you simply can not run on a PC, like Screenflow. So should you have been ever for the reason that going into industry on-line, a Mac is an overly well begin. Leopard is a Mac working procedure. I suppose it is the trendy however as i DON't have a Mac I can not be certain. I suppose you most commonly want a pupil card or anything to get the reduction, however there might be main points at the Apple website online. It's not possible to let you know what application you wish to have, when you consider that you have not mentioned what you desire to do!
