On eBay, theres a ton of them for sale really cheap, does anyone know what the big deal about these are, or are they like any normal laptop?

SIde note is I bought two for parts not working, one Lenovo, one IBM, one of them has a bad motherboard, good everything else, the other one has a good motherboard, bad everything else, any issues in piece swapping them, upgrading the system to 7, and having a laptop? Also maybe getting a cheap 500Gb HD?

Yeah they are just old, IBM doesn't even make them anymore, they are all made by Lenovo right now.

I say, if you can fix them up and make a profit, go for it! They are great little lightweight machines.

Businesses just need the latest and greatest technology, so the old ones have to go, even for cheap sometimes. Newer business laptops have the latest smart card, fingerprint scanning, and drive encryption, so smart businesses need to upgrade and pass down the previous generations.

I would rather have an old business laptop myself than a cheap netbook :)

They are very durable business machines. You might not be able to play a game or watch hd video, but they will power through any task in ms office. There shouldn't be any issue with switching the motherboards as long as they are the same model.

the IBM Thinkpad series of systems are old and nolonger supported by IBM thats why you see alot of people trying to get rid of them. If you know what you're doing you can manage to build a nice usable laptop from various parts if compatiible.,
