There can be two reasons for this problem: (1) incompatible display driver software, or (2) a failing backlight bulb, which means a hardware issue.

Connect your laptop to an external monitor and check if the screen there works. If it does, then it's a backlight problem.

Can you hear the hard drive spinning and clicking to suggest windows is loading, but the screen isn't showing it?

If you turn up the sound knob do you hear the windows welcome sound?

If it seems nothing is happening other than the light on the keyboard, it could be many things.

A light will appear on the keyboard whether the computer is actualy working or not as long as power is on.

If all is dead except the keyboard and dvd drive if it has one, it could be that there is a motherboard fault, a processor fault, a bios fault or quite a few other things.

Have you dropped it?

Did it feel hot last time it was used?

If you can hear windows loading, it could well be a graphics problem or a screen problem.

Not much you can do if it is, other than get it repaired.

These people above me are jumping to conclusions way too fast.

This occasionally happens to my laptop depending on how it was stored or how long it was on the previous time.

Here is a simple fix...it seems odd...but it does work.

1) Take out the battery.

2) Unplug all cords

3) Hold the power button for 60 seconds.

4) Replug everything in. Do not put the battery in.

5) Turn the computer on.

It should work. When your computer is up and running, put the battery back in.

If it doesn't work. There is another step.

After Number 3, Place the palm of you hand firmly on the middle part of the keyboard. Hold your hand there immediately after you push the power button and then until it boots up.

Then follow the additional steps.

This may take a few times until it works, but I can guarantee it will!

For your situation I think the best way is if you reformat your hard drive. Before you do, make sure you back up all your important files and transfer them to a new hard drive.

This is a device that allows you to do so:

You connect the old hard drive to this device, and then the device to a another computer or laptop via USB. You would then be able to access all the files on it.

I got the device off a PC World Magazine Article.

Best of luck!

heavily all you may desire to do is replace the backlight for the liquid crystal show or in the previous that examine to work out if there are defective or lose wires. Get a screwdriver and undo the seen show unit and positioned it back see if that facilitates.
