hard disk problem vista --> xp?

hi, i have windows vista on my xps notebook. However, I keep hearing a CONSTANT scratching noise from the hard disk every second. Even if i dont do anything with the notebook and just leave it idle, it keeps accessing the hard drive for some reason.

Ive disabled indexing, windows defender, auto defrag, etc,.. but to no avail.
Im thinking of formatting my c drive and returning to xp.
This xps1530 system came with vista premium pre installed. Has anyone got this notebook and has gone back to xp with it?
if so, was it successful?

Also, if anyone could suggest things i could do to figure out this hard disk problem, i would be ever so greatful as it would save me alot of bother going back to xp.

(ps, when i was ordering the system, the sales guy said that this notebook doesn't come with xp, only vista premium,..is there a reason for this or can I just stick on whatever os i want?)
cheers.

If it's scratching sounds like the data head is hitting the disc. You will have to get a new one.

in case you're happy with the pirated version then you definately in straightforward terms ought to re-swap on the equipment with the valid license. click start up and choose RUN. decrease and Paste this in the Open field: %systemrootpercentsystem32oobemsoobe.exe /a this could start up the activation technique. seek for exchange activation key and persist with the activates to put in your new valid key. specific you are able to deploy over your previous version yet counting on the way you go with certainly one of those deploy, it ought to reset the registry which might alter logins and purposes already put in. Your D tension does no longer be touched via the deploy whether you probably did a sparkling/wipe deploy of the C tension. in case you re-deploy residing house windows, you'll want the drivers for all instruments if there is not any longer one on the residing house windows XP deploy disk.

its obvious your ram isnt enough to run vista properly so its using the page file to supplement itself. either increase your ram if you can or as you say switch to xp. the sales guy gets paid to say that. you can get most systems with xp in if you shop around.you could reduce your page file but this may mean that vista wont run properly
