Question:
Is it possible to get an internal hard drive for Lenovo R60 that can also be connected through a USB port?

I need an internal hard drive for a older lenovo R60 laptop.
1.83Ghz
55GB hard drive
504 MB RAM (I have ordered a 1GB stick of RAM, since I have an extra slot, and will put it in when possible.)
I have Windows XP installed with lots of files (pictures, songs, games, whatever) and paid software which I don't have the CDs or keys for. (All of the software was bought from my old school.)
I don't have leftover room to take a backup with the Lenovo Rescue and Recovery.I want to upgrade to Windows 7 RC, and I have downloaded the ISO already since it won't be available from Microsoft after today. (I think?)
I plan on using this process to keep my files http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/dd671583.aspx
But I still want to take a complete backup.
I have 2 flash drives, 2GB and 4GB, and my optical drive can not write DVDs.
This is not enough for all of my files and software.
I need to clone my whole C Drive onto another hard drive, then replace my current internal hard drive with that one, then install Windows 7RC. I think this way I can still have a complete backup of my software. I do not want to install win7 on an external hard drive or Virtual PC or VM ware or anything like that. So I think I am just asking if a Lenovo internal hard drive can be connected via USB?
Thanks in advance.

Open up the drive bay and look at the drive to see if it is PATA (IDE) or SATA.

Once you know that then you can buy a 2.5" USB drive enclosure and use that.

Wow - this is something that I have never seen. This is my guess: your tech guy could have did a drive copy booting with USB support. I believe that if you go into the BIOS - checking around for USB options - disable USB booting - that could solve your problem.
