I have Dell Vostro 1000. I bought it in the US. The adapter broke while I was in India. So I got a replacement which was a 3 round pin one. If I get a universal plug pin adapter/converter to US 2 flat pin, will it work? The dell adapter says it accepts 100 - 240V.

If the adaptor is double insulated, then converting the three pins to two pins will work fine and safely. Most (if not all) laptop adaptors are anyway, as laptops use low voltages, so there is no need for any grounding.

Sounds like the plug to where your charger plugs into your laptop might be coming loose. I've seen this on numerous laptops where after they a unplugged and plugged in, over time, the piece that connects the power cord to the motherboard ends up coming loose and stops working. You might want to take it to a repair shop to have them check it out. Another problem might just be your charger being dead. You can purchase universal replacement power cords at Circuit City but they do get a bit pricey.

If you're very sure the adapter will work then it should be alright to use. The use of the wrong charger can result in catastrophic results. Check with Dell before you do anything with it.
