Question:
Laptop recognises network connection but ?
?

Yesterday a yellow exclamation mark appeared on top of my connection to the Internet. I'm not very technical with computers so I have no idea what to do about it except do the basics (eg. I've already tried reconnecting my wireless modem)
I'm convinced however that it is something to do with my laptop as it won't connect to both a wired or wireless connection, my itouch works just fine on the same wireless connection. My laptop just says there is no Internet access.
I'm using a dell inspiron with mcafee protection and windows 7.
I've already checked to make sure firewall isn't blocking the connection and it isn't, so I'm just stuck now.
Any suggestions?

And I'd appreciate it if you put it in the most simplistic terms, i'm not good with computer speak p:
Thanks in advance!

First thing to try - right-click the icon with the exclamation mark. You might be given an option to 'Troubleshoot'. Try that and if it doesn't work tell us what it says.

Do a system restore back to a point when the connection still worked.

But first, check if the wireless light on the front of your computer is on. Sometimes there's a wireless on/off switch, and you might have triggered that by accident.

PS: Colinc, the OP said no computer speak!!!

connect using a network cable. Start the machine into safe mode with networking by pressing F8 during boot. This should get you a connection, if so download the free scanner from http://malwarebytes.org and run the full scan. Often these problems are from spyware infections which McAfee does not handle well. If it does not you then need to check the settings on your wirless network adapter in network and sharing center, and your browser settings, default all these and remove any reference to proxies or dialup connections.

if it has no internet access that is not a computer/laptop problem.

its an internet access problem... lol.....

did you pay your internet bill?

do you have all your cords plugged in the right spots?

did a chip munk outside or any other animal eat your internet wires..

those are things u have to look for.

if all of that is good.

then maybe click the yellow icon thingy that pops up in the bottom right corner and click trouble shoot and it should fix itself.
