My laptop now has 3 broken and missing keys "I,m, and A." I have the keys and all the retainers except the circle one for each. All the circle containers broke, but I have the keys and square containers in meant condition. Should I:

A) Try to purchase just the circle containers
B) replace the whole keyboard (How much would that cost?)
C) buy entire new keys if possible.

I would replace the whole keyboard. Most of these aren't really meant to snap back on.



I have a Dell notebook and three times in the last two years I've replaced the keyboard. Once because a key kept sticking, another time because I snapped a key off while trying to clean it and the third time because one of my ferrets pawed at the replacement keyboard and pulled off about four of them while it was still in the bag :-0!! Of course I called Dell and told them the one they sent me was damaged ;)



If you don't have a warranty for your laptop you can find them on eBay pretty cheap. I know without warranty my keyboard was about $100 while on eBay they had brand new ones for $30! Replacing the keyboard is pretty simple with most notebooks/laptops. You take off the battery, turn it off, remove a panel above the keyboard, remove a few screws and slip the old keyboard out. Slide the new one in, rescrew it, put the panel back on.
