This issue can be caused by many different things. This makes it very difficult to diagnose. Sometimes it is actually a mup.sys problem, but it can also be that mup.sys is the last step it was able to complete and just can't go farther. Most of the time this is caused by a hardware problem. Common causes of this are RAM and IDE problems. It can also be caused by invalid BIOS settings. With a laptop this is probably not the case, but since I am not familier with that model I will not rule it out.

This can also be cause by loading an chipset driver that is incorrect.

If you do not have any critical data, I would recommend that you try a fresh install of windows, or a restore from the disks provided with your laptop. If it is a software, or driver issue, this is the quickest and surest resolution. If this doesn't fix it, you have pretty much narrowed it to a hardware issue.

If you take it in for a warrenty repair for this issue, there is a very very high chance that the first thing they are going to do is wipe your drive anyway.

you're utilising an Acer - junk. pass purchase a Toshiba or a Compaq. besides, upgrading from XP is the priority with Vista. A manufacturing unit Vista installation rocks. as much as date: I even have 2 laptops with an early manufacturing unit Vista installation with celeron processors, 80 gig HD, a million gig ram - sluggish. My new LT has a greater moderen greater suited version of Vista put in, pentium, 80 gig HD, 2 gigs ram, on a Compaq LT. i can run Photoshop components, Vista, Picasa, Gimp and ACDSee abruptly jointly as working a Netflix action picture with out having themes. i've got no longer had a crash yet (knock on wood).

Reset it and keep pressing the F8 button when it restarts until an emergency menu pops up, select the choice for Safe Mode

Sorry to say it, but that's to be expected with a piece of crap system like an Acer. You get what you pay for. Take it back to Wal-Mart and get a real notebook system like an HP (no, Dell isn't any better). The most economical place to get any system is www.stupidcheapcomputers.net. They sell nothing but professional grade systems and it's not going to cost as much as a consumer-grade system would anywhere else.

If your computer is not working properly while you are working on it, it could be a problem with device drivers, hardware or software.
