The Surface Windows RT OS is better designed and more powerful than iOS - BUT there are many fewer apps for Windows RT compared to iPad, and that will be true for several years even in the best possible scenario.

You also need to be aware that the Windows RT Surface doesn't run real Windows apps like Word and Excel - it does have those apps, but they're slimmed down versions, and they run slower. Similarly, it won't run games made for Windows 7. To be able to run any Windows apps on Surface, including Office and games, you have to get a Surface with Windows 8 Pro, which will be available after the Windows RT tablets come out (and which will cost more).

So if I were you, I would hang on to the iPad for now, and once the Windows 8 Pro Surface tablets are out, check those out - what you'll basically be getting is equivalent to an ultra-slim laptop that runs Windows 7 apps, plus it has a touch screen and all the cool Metro apps.

I would wait and check out the new microsoft surface at the best buy store when it is on display before getting it, yes the ipad is not flash compatible , and the keyboard comes with the microsoft surface which i like about it instead of buying it seperate, and windows 8 is really made for tablets make it a great os for these expensive tablets on the market , ipad 3 are just popular tablet qand expensive than the microsoft surface

It comes down to what you need. Do you want Microsoft Office support? And want it to serve as a netbook from time to time ? Then Surface is the obvious choice, But if you use your tablet more for games, various apps and for media consumption then keep the ipad. Keep in mind you'll have to stick to Microsoft application store for all RT apps, since regular Windows applications are NOT compatible with Windows RT.

When people ask Android tablet vs iPad I always recommend Android because of its cheap price but this is not the case.Surface is as expensive as iPad.I would definitely get iPad 3.

If you like the Windows RT tablets better than your iPad, then go for it. What are you waiting for? However, I just want to point something out that you may or may not know:

Windows RT is NOT Windows 8. Think about all the programs you can run on Windows XP/Vista/7. Now, realize that almost none of those apps are compatible with Windows RT. This is due to the fact that Windows RT is designed to run on ARM (tablet/smartphone processors) instead of the full-on x86 processors. It's the same reason you can't run Mac apps on the iPad, to give you a comparison. Windows RT behaves and looks like Windows 8, but it can ONLY run apps from the Microsoft Store. You won't be able to run Steam, Photoshop, or even programs like Firefox on a Windows RT tablet. You have to wait until developers release RT versions for these programs in the Microsoft Store.

Using that knowledge, we see that Windows RT is like iOS, except with less applications. Don't worry, though. There are many apps to come, and as you've already mentioned Windows RT comes with and runs Microsoft Office (the 2013 Preview, mind you—2010 and earlier are NOT compatible). Windows RT also lets you manage your files, change settings, and everything else you're used to in Windows. It just runs on different hardware. Heck, a Windows RT tablet with a USB port is compatible with many keyboards, mouses, webcams, mics—some, like the Surface, will even CHARGE an iPad. Keep in mind that you wouldn't be able to sync, though. As of now, Windows RT can't run iTunes.

I'm not saying don't get a Windows RT tablet. Sure, get one if you like it. I would get one, if I didn't already have an iPad myself. I may even buy a Windows RT tablet to use in addition to an iPad, but I'll wait a year.
