If you're only going to use the computer as a study/research machine (though that Blu-Ray drive suggests otherwise :D), it is a fine machine.

Of course, if you're going to play some good or fairly recent games, you might want to consider upgrading your video card. NVIDIA's 8600m gt ==> 256mb GDDR3 graphics memory ==> win.

Though, I will say I'm not too sure why you want to dump a heap of money on this:

1 420-6588 Microsoft Office 2007 Professional Edition

Since I'm going to post-secondary school as well, I just got the Office Student & Teacher edition, which takes out stuff like access and outlook. The question is... do you really need them?

Why worry, you will want to build your own very soon anyway. You will most likely not like a Generic Vendor PC after a bit of packing in the knowledge. I would say save your money for beer at university and build your own. You will want to start accumulating parts and cases so you can play. Also you may want a few PC's and some Server Software so you can create a LAN and do some Lab work.

Good Luck

Strange, you're going into Computer Science and can't configure a notebook? You should at least know about computers beforehand or be confident enough in your own abilities/knowledge.
