i recently inherited a hp compaq dc7100 sff computer. (old office desktop computer)

i already own an acer aspire 5750g laptop with following specs:
processor: intel(R) Core(TM) i5-2430M CPU @ 2.40GHz
RAM: 4.00GB (3.85 GB usable)
system: 64-bit operating system
with display device
with nvidia geforce gt 520m graphics card
manufacture: intel corp
chip type: intel(R) HD graphics family
DAC type: internal
approx. total memory: 1760 MB

i can play most of the games i want on low settings with my laptop which i don't like to do as i need my laptop for uni for the next 3 years and i dont like to stress it, but it will get me by if it has to.

my question is, is it possible to physically or internally upgrade the specs of the desktop pc to above the specs of my laptop. im ultimately looking to run games on the max settings for perfect resolution. if so what components could i replace and around how much would it cost me. (wanna run crysis 3 on max). i will eventully build my own gaming pc but untill uni ends money is tight.

upgrade ? or stick with me lappy ?

That was a mildly decent business desktop in 2004, but forget upgrading to play games. To play games at max will require some much newer parts. Sign up at www.maximumpc.com and start to read their online mag. They build lots of home-built rigs for gaming, and frequently publish entire lists of components needed as well as how to advice. Two months ago they showed how to build a decent gamers rig for $500. I have been reading their mag for almost ten years now.Sick with the laptop for now. Go to Acer online and look up your model number. You might be able to increase the ram to 8 gigs which you can handle since your system is 64 bit. That alone would make a very noticeable difference. Also, you didn't say what kind of HDD you have, but if you replaced it with an SSD the difference would be dramatic.

Run Windows Updates and look at "Optional" or "Hardware" drivers. Windows updates is usually pretty good at locating necissary drivers. I was running Windows7 on a dc7600, but I was running an Nvidia video card. AD
