Acer eRecovery Management not working, can I use XP Pro?

My friend gave me an old laptop he didn't want anymore. It's an Aspire 5251 with Windows 7 Home Premium 64 bit on it. It turns out to be infected with the Trojan:DOS/Alureon.A virus and I can't seem to remove it. I've downloaded the Microsoft Defender Offline tool and done a Full Scan, but it found nothing. If I go to Safe Mode, I can't find the virus running in the processes, but once I go back to normal Windows, MSE again finds the virus and can't remove it. I have been trying to restore the machine to factory specs, but the Acer eRecovery Management doesn't seem to be working. Alt + F10 at start up does nothing, and if I use the program from within windows, it just reboots back to Windows again, never performing the restoration. Of course it's an old laptop, no warranty, and my friend didn't give me any restoration disks. I have thought of using an old Windows XP Pro disk and license I have, but the HDD in the laptop is SATA and my XP Pro is pre-SP3 (maybe even pre-SP2), and therefore cannot see a SATA drive without RAID drivers which (as far as I know) can only be installed from an Internal Floppy drive which the laptop does not have. In addition, I don't know how I would get XP drivers for the laptops internal hardware. I need a real guru to help me out with this conundrum, any takers?

Try this to enable D2D in BIOS and then do the F10 again.

Q: Acer recovery is currently disabled To use Acer eRecovery, the "D2D Recovery " under BIOS must be enabled.

A: To enable D2D Recovery, follow this procedure:

Enter the BIOS by turning the notebook on and tapping the F2 key when you see the Acer screen.

Press the RIGHT arrow key one time to highlight the MAIN tab.

Select D2D Recovery:

Press Enter and change to ENABLED and press Enter.

D2D Recovery should be Enabled.

Press F10 to Save and Exit.

Select Yes to save settings and reboot.

Ok, it sounds as if you have completely screwed your pc. Most of the time for acer erecovery to work you need to have the erocover disks in the cd drive for the computer to read off of. you can try this. Otherwise, you can take out the hdd and hook it into an external enclose (ebay $5.00) and format it using another pc. Or, there are a lot of other options but its hard to say without much details of your situation. I could probably help you but I am going to need more info. feel free to message me and if you do, I need to know what you mean by 'black screen of death' as this can be a cause of many issues.
