it loses the internet connection. When I open it back up, I have to find a wireless connection again. Very time consuming. Any way to keep my connection no matter what?

You need to go to your control panel and go into the power options. Set it so when you close the lid the screen goes off by the computer doesnt go to sleep I would walk you through it but you didnt say what OS the laptop is using.
