Okay, my cd/dvd rom on my laptop has not been working for a while now. Ever since I tried burning a cd, the dvd/cd rom immediately stopped working. I mean, it opens and all, but whenever I put a disk in, it won't read it and nothing pops up on the computer screen. I've tried various softwares and programs that involve fixing the problem, but all have proven failure. Also, I must point out that when I do put a cd in and close the disk drive, it suddenly starts to make this ticking noise that lasts forever until I get the cd out, then it stops making it. I always used to watch movies and stuff, but ever since I burned a cd, it stopped working. Can someone help me out on this? I don't have any money to buy a new laptop.

From your description it sounds like it is bad.

So buy a: USB 2.0 Slim External DVD ROM CD-RW Combo Drive Writer

Here is the best price I found.

Looks like you need a new DVD drive for the machine. The ticking sound could be an indication of drive failure.

I'm guessing you have got attempted one other CD or DVD. The simplest resolution is to take away the force in Device Manager, reboot, and allow Windows re-set up it for you. Hope this is helping...

If you have internet access go to the laptop manufacturer, and download. then install the driver. If a virus corrupted the driver the laptop cannot communicate to the device.if you don't understand watch a youtube video on drivers.
