Hi everyone, i accidentally destroyed my parents dell inspiron 4100 laptop (please don't ask how). Of course i have been punished and had to buy them a new laptop but they also want me to find a way to extract some information out of the hard drive. The computer won't boot and just gives us the blue screen of death. I have tried all troubleshooting methods and the only solution would be to reinstall the operating system. But we need to get the information out of this thing first. Is there a cheap service or a product that could help me do that? I have looked at this radioshack hard drive encloser or something like that but i don't know if it is the right type. So the main question is how do i get the information out of this hard drive? Thanks in advance for any anwers.

get a drive enclosure... most likely sata and 2.5" will be appropriate.. when you're shopping for it tell them you need it for the internal drive from your dell inspiron 4100. unscrew all the screws for the hard drive on the bottom of the laptop, remove it and put it in the enclosure, then use the usb cable to connect the enclosure to another computer and the files should be available.

Ok did you use anti static measures when opening your pc case and changing things around because if you put static onto the motherboard, CPU or hard disk they will fail slowly but surely like this. I am talking about an anti static wrist strap. If this is the issue once damaged there is no way to fix these parts apart form buy a new PC, sorry.

This device will accept all hard drives except SCSI (which I can almost guarantee isn't in your laptop)

I use this in my business every day to extract data.
