I have an Acer aspire 3690 laptop, not sure what year because it is second hand.

It keeps turning off, now I say turning off because it doesn’t shut down normally, the screen goes black (like it is before you turn it on) but there are no words on the screen (like u see with a blue or black screen when an error has occurred). And all the light go off as well, that indicating that the laptop if off. (Lights include: power button, Wi-Fi and battery).

My laptop is plugged into the charger so I know it has nothing to do with the battery, (and when my battery is low my computer prompts me and when the battery is at a certain point the computer hibernates (but does not do this in this circumstance).

When I boot the computer after it has turned itself off I don’t get the Microsoft page: the one that tells you an error has occurred and that’s why it turned off and tells you that windows will start normally in so many seconds. It simply boots normally, like nothing happened.

So my question is, has anyone else had this problem with their computer or have they heard of anything like this before? If so and you know what to do to fix it please let me know.

The computer may be overheating. Try clearing out the fan. If you think it's a software problem try to restore your computer. Other than that I can't think if much else.

Just a rapid point out for the ease of getting answers someday. There's a disk force in it, there's not an OPTICAL drive (CD/DVD/BluRay/etc) in it. The type and connectors for the tough pressure (nonetheless a disk drive - simply named a tough disk), could be anyhting froma strong-state pressure to a full-on SATA excessive performance 160gig hard force. All disk drives of some kind. When you have any style of drive that can be changed, that you would be able to pull it from the method and attach it as a secondary to a different system. This will have to handiest be achieved if there's now not a restoration partition on the drive itself, and which you could find out all the recovery specifics from the Acer web page itself directly relating to Your special model number and hardware setup. If in case you have the whole thing you realize or consider you can also need off f the system already, by way of all way effortlessly do a rough recovery from the healing partition. In the event you don't have a entire backup made yet, you may need to pull the pressure and archive it with a laptop process's CDR/DVD burner, or an outside difficult pressure. To do that with no trouble use a zip or rar utility and an hour or so, and any folders that will not reproduction appropriately You easily zip (or rar) into a single file. If there are too many documents within the folders to create a single file with, with ease go into that folder and seperately zip all these folders. Then that you would be able to make a zip of the folder. There is a method that effortlessly creates a zip-file with the identical identify because the folder or file You at the start click on on. Should you DO go together with the secondary process system, I enormously advocate re-partitioning the pressure on that procedure however you would select earlier than pulling it from that system. Delete partition(s), reboot, create new partitions, reboot, format partitions, reboot, and set up any documents and software installers you need on the system to a secondary partition of about 4gigs for future restoration use. Good luck!

it could be due to overheating

1) place the laptop on a hard surface. Check the rubber feet are fitted and in good order

...an air space under the unit is important

2) observe the fan operation. if the fan is oten on for long periods at HIGH air flow

...then stop what you are doing and wait for fan to decrease.

3) when a shutdown occurs, wanted or unwanted, wait for 30 secs before switching back on

...this is important as the cpu has to get a big pump of energy when first starting

...if it is already hot, this is bad and can result in very high chance of cpu damage.

...it could take a minute or two for the pc to cool the cpu.

4) if your cpu fan does not appear to work very well it may need replacing. In most cases

...a laptop fan will need replacing within 3 years of moderate operation. with high use this

...could be less. If operated in or near a food cooking area the fan will get clogged much

...more quickly.

i cant help you any other way

99% of the time your problem will be down to overheating. This usually happens because the internal cooling system gets blocked with dust. You might be able to fix this yourself but the dust can build up in inaccessible places inside the laptop in which case you will need to take it to a repair shop (or take the computer apart yourself which is tricky and risky). My local repair shop uses a high pressure air gun as a first resort.
