I heard that it's best to wait for your laptop battery to run low and then charge until full. Also that the battery life becomes shorter if you always keep it on charge. Today I left the house for two hours and forgot that my laptop was charging... will the battery life be affected by doing this just once? Thanks :)

The battery stops charging when the battery is fully charged. It doesn't matter how long you leave it plugged in. When will people realize that a laptop is designed to be used either plugged in or on battery. The charger is a power supply. When you use the laptop plugged in you are not using the battery and it only charges if the battery needs charging. You can't overcharge the battery. It stops when full.

If you want a battery that lasts years then use the laptop plugged in when that's convenient.

I have a laptop with a five year old battery and it still isn't worth replacing.

Actually, running down the battery will shorten the battery life. For optimal performance the battery should be kept around 40% charge. Laptops get hot. The longer the battery is hot the quicker it's going to die. So don't use your computer for more than an hour at a time, keep it out of direct sunlight or anywhere it could get hot.

Honestly, following these guidelines is silly. Just use your computer. You're going to lose nearly half the charge capacity in 1.5 to 2 years anyway so might as we start saving for a new one now so you're ready to either buy a new battery or upgrade to a new laptop.

Everybody out there who see this answer don't leave your laptop charging constantly , my battery for doing that last less than 40 minutes , take it from someone who knows , charge it up use the laptop on battery power every now and then and recharge it to extend the battery life , you are okay for two hours please use the laptop on battery power it saves the battery

thats fine. two hours is not long. it is enough time for your laptop's battery to chrage fully. what you should not do is leave your laptop charging all the time

two hours just once is fine. what you want to avoid is doing it all the time for long periods of time.
