so check it out, my computer does not have a factory restore installed onto the computer so i cannot factory restore it without the disk, i contacted dell about wanting to reinstall my os but i guess what i meant was factory restore it. they sent me the disc and drivers/utitlies disc but when i reinstalled my os there are no programs installed with it!

i tried installing the drivers but the ones they said to install arent even all options in my device and drivers disc. im making myself crazy over this for the past week trying to get my computer back to working condition! my f1,f2,f3 etc keys dont work, my dvd player wont play movies, i have no access to the internet. it is completely useless at this point. did dell studio 1558 just not come with a factory restore option? or is there a seperate disc for this from dell? also, how many other discs do i need to restore all the previous programs, etc?

all the other times i factory restored my computers it was never this hard! i have never done it with this computer and it is so frustrating! someone please help!

If by 'previous programs' you mean the ones you installed after you got the laptop, they're gone!

When you reinstalled the OS, the hard drive was formatted and erased everything that didn't come with the original installation!

As has been mentioned, go to http://support.dell.com/support/downloads/ enter your Service tag or choose your model/OS and download the drivers. Copy to disk or flash for installing☺

Turn on the computer and as soon as the computer starts, keep on pressing the ‘F8’ key until you reach the advanced boot options menu. Once you are there, select the ‘Language Settings’ and then, click ‘Next’. Make sure that you log in with administrative credentials and click ‘OK’. Then click ‘Dell Factory Image restore’ option from the list, and it will initiate the process for you. In the new window, click on ‘Yes’ to select ‘Reformat hard drive’. Now, click on ‘Restore system software to factory condition’ check box and click ‘Next’. When the process is completed, you need to click ‘Finish’ to restart the computer.

The best precaution to be taken is to take a backup of all the necessary files, since restore will not necessarily take a backup automatically for you. Another very important step is to ensure that you have disconnected all the external peripherals from your computer, apart from the AC adapter. This is necessary, since any external device connected to the computer, during this process, may hinder smooth completion of this process.

The easiest thing to do would be to download the drives/programs from the internet on another computer and copy them onto the laptop by CD or portable disk etc.

If you go here http://support.dell.com/support/downloads/ and enter your "service tag" (a 7 digit code usually found underneath the laptop) then you will be able to download all the drivers you need including the CD/DVD driver, Networking drivers.
