Hi..
I'm 13 y.o. And I'm thinking about buying a new computer.
I'll use it for browsing, doing my homework (word, excel, powerpoint), play games (not a huge gamer), photo & video editing (sometimes).
Now I'm confused between buying a Mac or an PC.
Do you think a Mac is necessary for me? Or should I buy another brand like vaio, dell,hp,ect (which is cheaper than Mac)?
And should I buy a laptop or and desktop. Because buying an laptop will make me easier for school but of course a desktop has a higher specs.
Can you help me which to buy?

note : I want it to be last longer
I love the os x lion look (never try before)

Buy a Mac you won't regret it.. The Mac is the future, Everything about the mac is far superior to a PC.

Stay away from Dell, Acer, HP and all that junk, You get what you pay for, so pay for the best...

Buy a desktop, you'll be able to upgrade it as time goes on to better suit what you use it for. You'll get a lot more for your money, and desktops across the board last longer than laptops, as heat dissipation is better with a tower, and you won't be moving it all the time.

Are you interested in ever getting into audio/video editing hardcore? Most people prefer Final Cut Pro or Avid over Adobe solutions, and FCP/Avid are pretty much exclusively OSX. A lot of people use Mac for this purpose exclusively. I use whatever free program to edit on my windows machine; I don't need to do anything fancy, and the turn-around time is much better. Homework: either will do. Games: no brainer, Macs ship with horribly underpowered (for the money) hardware; a $1000 window-based computer will run circles around an equivalently priced Mac. Macs can get viruses have other security problems; believing that you can't will make you do stupid things with it. I think a MBP would be mostly wasted on what you are looking for.

As far as windows-based laptops go: vaio are overpriced, dell have many hardware issues, hp have overheating issues, toshiba has the best quality numbers right now, but that's the one I've never owned. I doubt you'll bring your laptop to school; perhaps in college get a laptop, for now stick with desktop. I've always preferred Lenovo for laptop and desktop, but they can also be expensive.

If you want to be a real man, build your computer from scratch; you'll get better quality and many times better prices going from scratch, and it's easier than ever to do. Otherwise, you need to set a budget first and foremost to find a beginning point.

PC.Go for a PC.Because it's WAAAY cheaper than the Mac and has better performance for the price. And PC's have Windows operating systems, that supports all games, but Mac has a extremely weird and failed operating system called Mac OSX,that supports a little number of games and has a weird interface. That's why go for a PC(it will save you a lot of money)

Edit:I forgot to tell you that the taskbar is on the up side of the screen on Mac OSX(that's weird)

If you're going to use it for gaming, get a PC unless you really want to pay extra to run Windows on your Mac. Also, you are only 13. You do NOT need an expensive Mac right now. (Besides, you can get 3-4 PC laptops on sale for the price of the cheapest MBP.)

Dell is cheap, but their laptops die in four years due to shoddy equipment.

Get an HP, Compaq, or Toshiba if you want something that'll last. (I highly recommend Toshiba. They usually last ten years or more if you treat it right.)

Choose one or the other---a desktop or laptop. You do not need both when you're only in secondary school. I doubt that teachers will let you use your laptop in class to take notes that often.

Mac is cool. But wait until October. Windows 8 is amazing. (sort of)
