Ipad or Ereader Device?

I can't figure out which is the right device for me. As I understand it, the Kindle 3G does allow you to browse google and links from google in a rudimentary way? Which made me say, maybe I should just buy an eReader instead of a tablet like the iPad.

Help me decide what's right for me?
My Main uses: I want to streamline my cookbooks and future cookbooks on a device. I want to grow and streamline my computer IT programming books. Cookbooks and IT books are often really thick and take up more space than I have. Streamlining these somehow and allowing me to have novels and things electronically would be best. The catch, with cooking, I spend a lot of free minutes using my phone's browser and favorites tab on phone to save recipes I find online. Frequently enough, I want the online recipe to be a bit bigger than my phone, so I bring my laptop in to the kitchen risking what I once did, ruin a whole laptop with a adjustable measuring cup mishap (don't ever buy one of those)! I plan on upgrading my phone in a few months and currently I have the Tmobile Sidekick, but I am hesitant with phones that use the technology like the iPhone has b/c my nails are long and artificial and this makes it harder to touch "touch screens." I am not willing to change my nails, perhaps trimming my thumbs if keeping them a bit shorter. My current phone has a slideout push button keyboard, very easy for me to type fast with my artificial nails. So I am thinking of making two purchases. A tablet or ereader device and a new phone. I mainly want input on the choice of a tablet or ereader. If you make a suggestion of tablet or ereader, please if you are informed enough suggestions on which ereader or tablet are welcome. Thanks!

In short, I won't choose iPad or Nook Color, because they're using backlight screen like computer screen, and is difficult to our eyes. Just not suitable for reading purpose. For other ebook readers including the B&N Nook, Sony Reader, and Amazon Kindle, I'll go for the Kindle. For the Sony Reader, many books (especially new releases) cannot be easily find on it. For the Nook, it is good but it is slower and less user friendly compared to the new version of Kindle.

There is also quite a good comparison between the ebook readers here:

I would wait until the iPad 2 is announced, which could be anywhere from the next few days to a few weeks. The big screen is perfect for all fingers, (you would hold yours at a lower angle to clear your nails). Plus, you could write your recipes into any word processing program (Word or Pages) that lets you save into pdf format. Then you can use the iBooks App on the iPad to view them. Or, if you're looking for recipes, the Apple App store has TONS of cookbook and recipe apps. Epicurious and Big Oven are my favorites. They let you search and save recipes, plus they even provide you with shopping lists for whichever recipe you're viewing. My friend built a little secure shelf for hers so she can mount it on her kitchen wall. (Of course, she uses it to watch movies as she cooks more than she views cookbooks.) We just downloaded the "Martha Stewart Makes Cookies" App, and it has video tutorials on a lot of the recipes. Very nice. The iPad is not the cheapest tablet, but it is hands down the best. And with a new version right around the corner, it's only going to get better. And the iPad DOES have a keyboard. It comes with an on-screen keyboard that never gets gunk in it, or you can purchase the external keyboard. I write my school papers on mine.

If you want to do ANYTHING ( And yes I mean anything ) Other then buying apps and watching movies, do not get an iPad.

Tablets are completely retarded devices only intended for the rich and stupid.

From what I see, you want to write books, and the whole idea of trying to write a book on a gadget that has no keyboard is ridiculous.

Get a laptop, you won't regret it.

The church I attend has the latest in technology, they have iPads, video game consoles, projectors, huge flat screens, system sound and so on. I remember when religion used to be humble, now it is really disgusting the way they spend money just to gather followers. By the way, I attend because they have a really good coffee.

I love answering kindle questions, it's by far one of my favorite devices that i keep in my bag.

For starters and most importantly I own the Kindle 2 (soon to be upgrading to the Kindle DX), and it is easy for me to say I love it! I think I've read over 20 books so far.

There are other reviews on the Kindle 2 here:

And for the Kindle DX:

I love my Kindle because it has helped me improve a lot on my efficiency and utilize my time. Before I owned the Kindle, waiting time like when I'm waiting for friends or waiting for shuttle bus or some thing like that is simply wasted. Now I just need to bring the Kindle 2 along with me. Another thing I like the most is the text-to-speech function, which means I can "read" books without even holding or looking at the Kindle. Now I like to use this function when I've myself busy on some boring things, say when I'm on the step machine or doing some housework...

I like reading and at the beginning I missed a bit on the feeling of reading books. But now I love to hold the Kindle, the e-ink seems to work very well, it is really like reading books... Now I often read with the Kindle for several hours but I don't feel tired.

I linked your directly to the Kindle Store on amazon.com! I really do hope you consider getting your own =)
