Recently my Dell Inspiron M5030 has stopped charging, this is also after the screen was cracked and removed. The charger's LED is on until plugged into the computer, and other chargers do the same. Is this a problem with the removed screen or the battery?

Dead battery, replace it...

Turn the machine off, if it isn't already.

Remove the battery, leave the charger in, and see if it turns on. If not, replace the charger.

If it works, turn the machine off.

Remove the charger and reinsert the battery. See if it stays on. If it doesn't work, replace the battery.

The battery may need to be re-seated. Try rebooting the computer without, then with the battery.

1. Power down the laptop, unplug the AC power adapter, and remove the battery. Then plug the AC adapter back in and boot the laptop

2. If step 1 is okay, then power down the laptop again, unplug the power adapter, and reinsert the battery. Plug the AC power adapter back in and boot the laptop

If the unit still does not charge, then it could be a problem with the power management software. In order to correct the problem:

1. Click Start and type "device" in the search field, then select Device Manager

2. Double-click Batteries

3. Right-click the Microsoft ACPI Compliant Control Method Battery listing and select Scan for hardware changes

If this does not work, then

3. Right-click the Microsoft ACPI Compliant Control Method Battery listing, and select Uninstall.

WARNING: Do not remove the Microsoft AC Adapter driver or any other ACPI compliant driver

4. On the Device Manager taskbar, click Scan for hardware changes

Hi Robert Jones,

I would suggest you to perform flea power on the system. Remove the power cable and the battery. Hold the power button down for 15-20 seconds and then put the battery and the adapter back in and start the computer. Check if it works.

Connect the AC adapter to a known good power outlet and check the status of power LED on AC Adaptor without being plugged into the laptop.

If LED is blinking, ensure that the AC power cord is correctly installed.

If LED on the AC Adapter goes off after connecting to notebook, you might have to replace motherboard or DC port in.

Check with a good known compatible AC adapter. Also, check the AC adapter and system power port for damage.

Hope this helps.

if its doing it with other chargers theres a fault dragging the voltage down. Take it to a shop to get repaired. to say what it is without actually seeing it let alone examining it is fruitless.
