Hello everyone.

I have just about tried everything and still no sound?? Let me take you back to the beginning...

About 2 months ago my factory installed windows vista crashed on my HP Pavilion dv6700 laptop! So, I went to my back up disks and ran them. Well there are three back up disks and the first one worked ok but when i put the second disk in a window came up saying contact HP!

Well to make a long story longer! That was a waist of time.... See my HP laptop is only 16 months old and of course the warranty is only good for a year! So..... being fed up with vista i downgraded to xp.... ( i really don't think that i downgrated!. I love my xp pro!!)

But now my audio does not work. when i go to my device manager there is a yellow !EXCLAMATION point on O.H.C.I. compliant IEEE 1394 host controller!! and also a yellow question mark on....OTHER DEVICES WHICH INCLUDES VIDEO CONTROLLER VGA!

I was wondering if anyone out there can help me fix this problem??? I am now livin in Thailand.... So, i cant go to the local Best Buy Geek squad! Please beleive me I HAVE TRIED JUST ABOUT EVERYTHING!!! I love my XP PRO and i would hate to go back to vista...(because it sucks....just my opinion)

I did try to download the drivers from hp support site... but they don't list a driver for this laptop running xp! Please help PLEASE!!

Thank you

my guess is your laptop being not very old, has a sata interface, but xp didn't make sata drivers, so go beyond hp's site, search online for xp pro sata drivers to install. There may be a chance that your motherboard has sata drivers also, search that if the other comes up blank, or maybe they gave you a motherboard cd and you haven't run it?

You are living dangerously to say the least. The recovery partition on your system is on the same hard drive as your user files. OS, applications, drivers etc. If the hard drive ever fails, you're sunk! Notebooks like yours usually instruct the users to make a backup recovery cd to use in the event that the hard drive has problems. NOW, you've circumvented proper troubleshooting by jumping to conclusion's a deciding that the OS needed to be reloaded. If you still have programs on there after reformatting that you had before, they are part of the load. The problem you are seeing could simply be drivers. go to the HP website and find the drivers for your model and OS. Download them and load them. If that doesn't help you may have a hardware failure.

Right what you need to do is open device manager. Select the yellow hardware and right click. now select options. this will open a window. now select details. now in the drop down menu select device ID. this will populate the area bello with a code. Hightlight the code with your mouse and copy it. Now paste it into google. search google for the relivent code and it will display the drivers you need for this hardware. download install and enjoy. Points to note with some HP products you need to install the drivers ni a certain order. Normally its chipset, ethernet controller VGA, then sound.

Hope this helps if not message me on here and i will endevour to help you out.

2 Options..........

1) UPGRADE to the new OS, windows 7. Doing a fresh install will fix all your problems......and yes......ITS WAY BETTER THAN XP AND VISTA!!!!

2) Download the Creative Driver or the HD Audio Driver for your particular HP from HP.com

Personally, the best option I could recommend to you is upgrading to Windows 7

You need to find out the make and model number of your Motherboard if you have intergrated Audio or If you have a Sound card you need to find out the make and model number of that and look for the Audio drivers on the Net.

there was one link in it to this spot

That lead me to here.

http://www.realtek.com.tw/downloads/downloadsView.aspx?Langid=1&PFid=24&Level=4&Conn=3&DownTypeID=3

Which has a driver for 2000 or XP in ZIP or EXE format.
