Toshiba laptop query - SD cards cause Blue Screen Of Death?

Hello.

I have a Toshiba Satellite C650-15Z, and when I put in SD cards (so more than one) I get the Blue Screen Of Death!! It was mainly one card but I've just tried another and it happened to that aswell now. I have formatted them, uninstalled drivers, done Windows updates, restarted and tried them on another persons laptop but they load fine on there. And the SD cards aren't locked either.

The only odd thing is after the Blue Screen Of Death, my laptop restarts and I go to the card via My Computer and I can access it, so it's not totally broke!?

Any ideas please??

I agree, this could possibly be caused by a virus or even easier dust in the area. blow out the laptop with compressed air. if you do routine maintenance then this might not happen unless the slot really is bad.

Check and see if the SD card slot is good. Some of them are more fragile than people think and they get broken. Inserting a card may be causing things to short. This may require a trip to the repair shop to fix it.



You could have a problem with the autorun software. Does it work fine if you insert a CD or DVD? There could also be a problem with auto detect. It isn't detecting the SD card slot properly or the software for it is messed up. Last is a possible driver issue. The computer may be trying to use the wrong driver or a corrupted driver. Go into control panel and look for any flagged driver issues.



If you've formatted the SD cards, then it is unlikely that the cards have a virus. Scan the computer to make sure there isn't a problem with it. All the various types of memory cards and flash drives are subject to malware. So it could actually be something trying to spread.

for a soft restart but always happens when you insert it

auto insert runs the Autorun allowing virus to start.
