press start, run, then type msconfig, then go to startup and remove some programs that start when your computer turns on.

also you should defrag your computer, your press start, all programs, accessories, system tools, disk defrager.

you also might have a virus or spyware slowing your computer down. my old laptop was really slow once because a bunch of dust got caught in the fans, so get a dust sprayer and clean your fans.if none of this helps you can always start clean again. hope this helps!

This sounds like a software conflict to me. Possible causes are corrupt data caused by low battery shutdown although, I wouldn't rule out the possibilities of failing hardware just yet

.

Best course of action is to remove some of the unwanted programs. Save your own files to disc's rather than store all on hard drive. Then once you have reduced the amount of space you are using on it Defragment the hard drive and then checkdisk for bad blocks and errors. Depending on your level of knowledge you could check for windows error reporting.

Accessed in Microsoft's Windows via,

All Programs, Accessories, system tools, System information, click the plus sign to the left of Software environment and click Windows Error Reporting. This should display on the right any and all problems with software. Importantly, it also shows at what time and date the software hung or flagged an error. You can then check if this software is really needed or can be removed. if removed you can restart the machine and check for any improvement in startup speed

Once you are confident that your own files and programs could not be the cause, you can fault find the machine hardware itself.

Hope this has been of help to you and good luck.

Its totally a software issue, not the machine. Sounds like you have either or all of these: too many programs and features staring up at once, a virus/spyware, a conflict in who gets first dips at star up.

Realistically, you have too many incompatible programs starting up at once, plus, probably, a chronic adware/virus problem.

(remember, most viruses market you, use your net connection, rather than JUST steal bank info!)

So dont worry, but do think about what you have on it, what you need, personal files, and speak to a friend or expert, about a reboot and clean install, having saved your data for you, and checked you have back up disks, re-gettable oem licenses to put the system back on.

In a nutshell.....clean start, reboot, decide what you want back on, save personal stuuf, seek expert friend, pay expert....but machine is ok.

Had similar problem with corrupt windows personal profiles.

If you have antivirus and scanned/cleaned, then if you log in with a user id it may help to create another new user if you get access to the control panel, else if using default profile (no log-in) then create a new user account in control panel and change / delete default account.

Sometimes anti-spy or anti-virus software can go in to scan mode on startup - delaying the start-up process.

Also check your network adaptor settings; may be corrupt, and is searching for a remote server/connection.

If all else fails try backing up all data files and do a re-install.

have you ever put in all the updates on it? Your computer ought to notify you of any new updates. additionally while you're utilising Vista, I had an identical difficulty with it. I took mine to get thoroughly blown away and reinstalled each little thing on it. yet considering which you purely have your computer for 6 months you should call the producer and function them restore it with the aid of fact it is going to nevertheless be on a guaranty. do no longer wait like I did, the adult men that fixed my computer asked if I had a guaranty on it and it replaced into already expired so as that did no longer help.

Looks like your startup has a lot of programs in the list.

In Run Window Type msconfig and try to remove unwanted programs from startup list.

Hope this helps.

Try defragmenting it, this will move all your files into the correct place, don't worry you will still be able to find them. You could also possibly have a virus of some sort, so an anti virus checker might be worthwhile downloading. If none of these suggestion help i would suggest contacting the manufacturer as they might be able to help you.

This can be caused by many problems. The only thing you can do is try one at a time. You know it doesn't hurt your computer to leave it running 24/7. You may have a virus, need to defragment, and you may not have enough RAM. First check your RAM and if you have only 256MB, you need to upgrade to at least 512MB. Check your computer specification and see how much you have. Right click 'My Computer' and you can see this.

I wonder if you have Norton Security software ..if so, you can almost guarantee that its only a matter of time before Norton does what Norton does best...slow your computer right down incl startup & shutdown....I may be on the wrong track but if you have Norton it is one variable you have to look at & maybe get rid.

Go to toshiba website, and try any diagnostics you can find, or start up in "safe mode" and find out if you have a trojan virus, or if there are too many adware, spyware, etc., programs running.

If you can't stand it, leave it running until you get it cleared up.

you need to clean up your hard drive. add more ram. get rid of gunk. half and hour is unacceptable. you might need to upgrade or buy a new one if you cant fix this.

Popup Blocker:

Spend time surfing the Internet and you know about pop-up advertisements, small windows that open automatically to promote Web sites or products. Some pop-ups are benign; others more malevolent, spawning new pop-ups as quickly as you can close them – causing your Internet connection to slow dramatically as your browser tries to load all the unwanted incoming data.

With the Popup Blocker, you can block these pop-up Web pages, often shutting them down before you are aware of them. It also filters many Web page graphical advertisements on the pages you visit. Preventing these ads speeds your Web page loading times dramatically by cutting out the content you don’t need while leaving the information you do.

The Popup Blocker is installed into the System Tray where you can manage popups as you surf the Internet.

To enable the Popup Blocker tool:

Check the Enable System Mechanic Popup Blocker tool check box.

To add a window title rule to the Black List:

Click Add and the Black List - Add new Popup Window Title Rule window appears. Active browser window titles are listed in the large box.

Type the name of a window to block in the empty text box.

Note: When adding an open popup to your Black list, the popup window closes immediately and is prevented from appearing in the future. It also adds the browser name to the list. This only works if you use one Web browser. To block that popup from all browsers and website is blocked you use, add a new rule to the list.

Enabling Homepage Guard will keep your Internet home page from changing without your knowledge. It stops malware, adware, viruses and other Web sites from taking you anywhere you do not want to go.

Enabling Search Page Guard keeps your Internet search page from changing without your knowledge. It stops malware, adware, viruses and other Web sites from taking you anywhere you do not want to go.
