acer isn't that bad of a computer even though it is cheaper, for the price hp and ibm are going to be your best bet

Well I have an Acer Aspire 5100 laptop, and use it for email, music, chatting, etc. I downloaded some extra programs and it can be a bit slow at times, but then it's fine and dandy. But then again, I don't have a Core 2 Duo processor. But I do have a 15.4" widescreen. :D
To make a long story short, I've got about 1105MB (1.105GB?) of added-on programs, plus around 4 gigs of music for my iPod.. and it still runs great. It takes a bit to turn it on, though, I leave it for 5-10 mins and come back.... but that's why I leave mine on standby. It only takes a second to resume everything. :)
Good luck!
I'd find out the specification you need, and then shop around for computer models. The price difference might be surprising! Acers are known to be cheaper but I've got one and it's awesome! :)

i would prefer an IBM i personally have a Compaq PRESARIO ... and i do some graphic design. and digital animation. my preferred program would be BRYCE 5... its very expensive though... anyways. if u could find A COMPAQ it would be my best suggestion. but out of the choices given... an IBM. it would be , yes better quality. and just all over nicer i would suggest. but for graphic designs.. and HP would be better... considering the fact HP is mostly gear toward printers, and therefore. printers.

Hp for sure they are climbing the ladder very fast, however if you are planning to do graphic design make sure and find out which programs you will be running as most laptops only have integrated graphics and you might need dedicated graphics.

i would prefer HP since the designs are attractive and classic and i think the price is midway and it has good features also... I haven't seen an IBM laptop with an attractive design but i think the performance is good also... Acer looks fine also but i'm not sure of the performance...
