People spouting off about which they no nothing irratates me... so with that said here goes.

Acer has been in business for a very long time, before they left the USA Retail market, they were a higher-end PC company. When they returned, they aimed for the low-price market. I've helped people buy Acer computers, they are easy to convert to XP since ACER has easy access drivers of both XP & Vista available.

If you're buying a NAME-BRAND computer - they are ALL THE SAME. Acer has been making parts for other companies for decades.

Acer believe it or not is/was the parent company of Ali (Acer Labs Inc) and AOpen (Acer Open), as well as BenQ (the mobile division was sold off to Siemens). They do a lot of peripherals and I believe OEM for 3rd parties. They're also very big in Taiwan, one of the large computer manufacturers out there, I believe.

I also have personal experience with several Acer notebooks, including tablets, all of which were of acceptable quality.

Note that pretty much every Tier1 manufacturer out there will contract the big component makers (often many different ones) in Taiwan to manufacture their components... Asus being the largest, currently used by Dell and many others I am sure.

Acer ranks second in the global PC market for the EMEA region. Acer strengthened its leadership in the EMEA notebook sector and is positioned at the top of the rankings in: France, Germany, Hungary, Italy, the Netherlands, Poland, Russia, Spain, Turkey; still in the notebook sector Acer is ranked second in Austria, Belgium, Czech Republic, Denmark, Finland, Norway, South Africa, Sweden, Switzerland and United Kingdom.

Hi I have an ACER 4520 Aspire Laptop, and I paid $548 at Walmart,Celina OH. The specs for mine are: AMD Athalon X2 Dual Core 1.83Giz,Vista Premium,NVdia7000m Graphics,

120gig hard drive (partitioned into 2 50gig spots), 1MB L2 Cache, memory 1024MB (1gig),expandable to 4gig max DDRSDram, CD-RW/DVD-RW/DVD-Ram drive, 4 USB Ports, 1 Ethernet, 1 phone jack, and built in wireless card 802.11. External memory card reader. So I hate to say this, but someones taking you for a ****** at those specs and that price. OH yeah and Dolby digital live with Aztec Lansing speakers.

Regarding your question, I have had mine for the past week, and so far I love it. No problems yet. And it loads pretty fast too, and the Wi-Fi works over 100 feet away, hence I can write this. It's also got a built-in Web-cam/Crystal-Eye.

One thing though, Drive C, your main drive keep that as clean as possible, so unit runs efficiently all the time. If you download programs/games/music/pictures etc like most probably everyone does, when installing point the installation to dive D, your 2ND partition. Trust me on that part, I am a download junkie :-) Also am an OTR Truck driver, and this laptop works great for what I use it for, Co-Pilot GPS Navigation, web surfing, watching movies, and playing video games. It delivers so far with flying colors!

well I have had bad history with acer, both my own and other peoples. I would never get another one. On the other hand, I now have a HP laptop, which is just under a year old and has never given me one problem. HP/Compaq are the same company so I would say go for the compaaq!

The processor is average. Acer are a small company, not to sure how good the laptops are. Vista is not good, there have being alot of problems with it. Try get windows xp operating system. This particular laptop is a gamer laptop i take it?! good graphics and screen res. As with everything in this world it all depends how much its worth. Id pay 599euro max.

Dell Inspioron 1501 are brilliant but with dell you have to know exactly what you want!

Try get a 12cell-litium batery pack, excellant value and last about 9 hours browsing.

NO IT'S NOT!!!!!! Get a Toshiba or HP. HP have an excellent service if something goes wrong with your your laptop. I have an Acer T7200 dual core and it's takes 10 days plus to repair the broken latch. HP took only 3 days to reconfigure my operating system.

this is fine for everyday general computing.

with the nvidia video you can play older games or lite games.

if it not over 550 I would give it a go. you might want to get two gigs of ram.
