Hi. I have a HP dv8000 laptop. For the past couple of months, I have noticed that that Date and Time will not work. I have to manually change the date and time. Now for the time, let's say it's 8:30:00 am and I set it like that, it will work correctly until it decides to stay in the 8am time period or goes back 1-2 hours. I have checked for viruses, spyware, even erased everything and placed it back to the originial manufactured settings, but it does not work :( Any suggestions what may be causing this insane problem? Thanks!

Believe it or not but the clock is powered by a small battery on the motherboard.

When the battery starts to fail the clock won't keep the proper time. You need to remove the watch like battery and replace it with a new one. You can get one at any Canadian Dollar stores or Walmart, The Source etc... for a few bucks.

If you don't know how to change it then the repair shop can do it for you

One problem that may be causing this is that your coin cell battery inside your computer may be low. When this coin cell battery is low, the computer tends to lose track of time and automatically reset back to is factory default time. Depending on how new your computer is, it may still be under warranty with HP. Whenever you set the time to the correct setting and then turn off your computer, the computer will revert back to it's factory default time when the coin cell battery is low. This usually means that you need to replace your coin cell battery. Contacting HP technical support about this issue would also be a great help in resolving this issue.

Next time you boot your computer, repeatedly hit the F2 key while the screen with your computer's brand is displayed. This will bring you to the system menu. Use the arrow keys and the Enter key to navigate around. Find where the time is set. Change it to the correct time. Then exit and make sure you save your changes. See if that works.

is your laptop connected to the internet?..it may seem retarded but thats weird..my guess is that a computer gets its date and time from the internet and its not connected for periods of time?..
