my laptop was sitting in storage for a very long time and it had a dead battery for the whole entire time that it was in storage....and i got it outta storage and let it sit for a day or so on my home desk on the charger thinking that it would charge overnight and be ready by morning, and noticed that there was never a charge light to even start with...it never charged so then i went to go press the power button and after i did that nothing happened....so i was researching a little bit on yahoo answers and found that some people had the same problem and a best answer was chosen about the cmos battery going bad on theirs..so could this be what is wrong with mine ????? by the way it is a toshiba tecra m2

I'm not sure about the CMOS battery being dead being the cause of your problem.

the CMOS battery saves BIOS settings and the computer clock. It should not affect the hardware such that the battery does not charge.

If there is no charge light, it could be that your power adapter is damaged. If your computer will not charge does it still power on when connected to the mains with the power adapter? If so this would indicate a dead battery (not CMOS battery) and you should get a new one. Otherwise its most likely your charger/mains adapter that is broken!

You can also try plugging the laptop in to the mains power with the battery removed and see if that works (indicative of a dead battery if it does work)

For the record, a CMOS battery is a tiny button battery around the size of a coin. It is not the main laptop battery that you can easily unclip from the base of the laptop. It is not rechargeable.

in case you like an trouble-free job , open the aspects , and alter the battery , that's approximately 2cm in diameter and flat , and on your mom board (the single with the fan caught to it) (turn your potential sup off) and alter it , ought to be waiting to get yet another battery from dick smiths , if the cmos or bios nevertheless is puzzled there's a touch plastic element conected to 2 pins , get rid of this (can do it with small arms , or use tweezers , and then replace it to reset the cmos or bios. if the notebook is pre xp , then there is not any longer something you're able to do

CMOS is probably dead. I think that they only have a life of 10 years.
