If you're using Internet Explorer, switch to Firefox. If you're using Firefox, switch to Google Chrome. Make sure you have all the latest updates from Microsoft Update. Run a boot-time scan with your anti-virus program to make sure that you don't have anything on there that is able to hide itself after the computer boots up. Make sure you have the latest version of Adobe Flash, as this is giant resource hog and the latest version should lighten the load a little bit.

Good luck. =)

If your virus/spyware free, there are a couple things you can do get your computer working faster. If you using your computer for normal stuff and not gaming. You don't always need more RAM you just need to perform a few maintenance task.

First, if you haven't cleaned your registry in a while. This is necessary. Your registry holds all the information regarding updates, installs, un-installs etc. Each one of those events produces a key. That key needs your PC's resources and free space. So, if you clean your registry, you make more resources available for speed. Do a registry scan if you got more than 20 errors you should clean it.

2. Clear your Windows cache files, this is your temporary file. It can grow up to a large volume and stop your computer from using RAM properly. In a sense slow it down by preventing it from using free space. Here is how:

1. Quit Internet Explorer, Firefox, or any other web browser

2. Click Start, click "Control Panel", and then double-click "Internet Options".

3. On the General tab, click "Delete Files" under Temporary Internet Files.

4. In the Delete Files dialog box, click to select the "Delete all offline content" check box , and then click OK.

5. Click OK.

3. Manage your startups. Your excess CPU usage is due to too many programs running in the background. You can cut these to barebones by alter your msconfig. Here is how:

1. Open your Start menu.

2. Click Run

3. In the command screen type "msconfig.exe"

4. In the "system configuration utility",click either "service" or "startup" tab

5. Uncheck all programs that your are no longer using.

6. Click "OK"

There are internet registry settings that are hidden from view, and many people don't even know they exist. Therefore... a common person will not even think of this as a possible problem to their slow internet connection.

In most cases... it's the hidden internet registry settings that's keeping your internet from performing at its best, not the modem, the router, or your ISP.

By default, your computer is not optimized to handle a high speed connection properly. You will need to change the internet registry settings to allow it to handle high speeds.

Please check out my very simple 3 step guide that will show you exactly how to optimize your internet connection so that you can get the most out of it! The method used is 100% FREE to use!

Just a few things I can suggest..

- use only one anti virus..i prefer norton 09.. (too many antivirus does effect the computer's speed)

- If you are using windows vista makes sure you have a RAM of atleast 2GB.. if XP then 1GB is enough...

- make sure your windows drive i.e C in most of the cases, is 20% free atleast..

- total of your hard disk should be free atleast 10% too..

- use ccleaner frequently..

- use 'tune up-1 click maintenance' also..

- defrag windows drive frequently..

thats all I can think of.. hope it helps! ^_^

Ccleaner is the application I use to clean up my system when my pc slows down because of viruses, trojans or malwares. Free Download here: http://bit.ly/1sW1Rop

It's the best choice.

run an antivirus scan in SAFE MODE. running a scan in safe mode gets all those hidden viruses. then remove all unwanted files and programs. then scan for spyware (in safe mode too, naturally).

then do a deep cleanup.

windows disk cleanup is good (start> programs> accessories> system tools> disk cleanup)

but you can also download better cleanup tools like ccleaner.

then defrag.

right now the best possible solution to it is to run a program called Hijack this..

http://esupport.trendmicro.com/smb/default.aspx

that is the link to the software download the installer and then run the program.. click Scan and it should show you the programs currently running...

now what you have to do is check mark the suspicious ones.. and click fix checked..

i hope that solves the problem

It could be your connections.

Your phone polls which also hold your internet connections could be having problems.

That happens alot to me.

Maybe comED is working on the polls around your neighborhood.
