Why is there a weird search problem on my laptop suddenly?

So I got a new laptop for Christmas, and it's been working perfectly! However, just today it's started having search problems. I'm using Mozilla Firefox, and it seems like when I type in the search bar (not the google search bar, the search bar you type in www(dot) and (dot)com/net/etc), and press enter, it'll search, but it stays on the same page. I have to click on the search bar and press enter again, sometimes up to five times, before it searches. Why does this happen?
Also, I might as well post this as well, sometimes while I'm typing, my cursor will suddenly jump to a completely different part of what I'm typing. I think it might be my arrow keys that I'm accidentally hitting, but it doesn't feel like I'm moving my fingers that far. It's not SUCH a big problem, but I'd like to know anyway. The search problem is much more important however.
Thanks!

For the first part it sounds like your computer is taking a while to connect to websites. Try going to some place like speedtest.net to see how fast your computer is pinging the sites. It could be an issue with your isp or router.

For the second issue, it sounds like you are accidentally hitting the touchpad while you type. Its an homest mistake, i do it too. Try being careful to keep your palms away from it when you type.

You should download Google Chrome, maybe it'll be better? I have that browser and I'm not having as many problems as i did with Mozilla Firefox.. :) Hope this helps! oh and its free :p
