OK so I have a Dell Inspiron. It's dead and when I plug it into the charger, my computer doesn't seem to recognize that the charger iis plugged in and it won't charge. I tried using my roommate's charger but my laptop still wont charge. How did this happened to my computer and how do I fix it?

Hi Sammy,

You may try the steps mentioned below to troubleshoot the issue:

1. Perform flea power. Remove the power cable and hold the power button down for 15-20 seconds and then put the battery and the adapter back in and start the computer. Check if it works.

2. Check the jack on the AC Adapter and system power for any damage.

3. Try charging with the laptop turned off.

4. Check if it charges when you wiggle the AC adapter.

5. You may also try connecting the AC adapter in a different good known power outlet.

6. Test with a different, compatible and a good known battery (if available).

7. You may also run diagnostics on the battery to make sure if the battery is at fault. Use the link: http://dell.to/19o2OYC

If you get any errors replace the battery.

For more information on battery not charging issue, refer to the link: http://dell.to/14KkuQK

Hope this helps.

Sounds like the power adapter cord has shorted out and needs to be replace , reminder laptops takes a certain type of power adapter so they can't be be interchangeable with another laptop, could also be the dc jack the port where the charger plugs into, universal power adapter cords don't fit every laptop on the market
