it basically has a mind of it's own. the keyboard has a full keypad on it, so it's just set with the numlock off, so it's juat annoying when it scrolls down to the bottom of a webpage at random. it's sort of like i'm holding down the key at random times. any ideas on how to fix it or is there a way to shut off the key from working at all? (using windows 7)

The keypad can only work with a driver.

If the driver is damaged then the keypad can act differently.

To correct thisproblem you are experiencing reinstall the driver for the keypad.

If this didn't correct the problem then it is a hardware problem and you need to bring your laptop to a repair shop.

You need to find out if it's a software or hardware issue. To rule out that it's not hardware, boot from a different OS like any of those Linux Live distros on a disc. You don't need to install them. It will enable you to find out if the number 1 key behaves the same way. If not then it's the OS in your hard drive that has a problem. A reset to factory defaults should fix it but you will need to back up your data and reinstall your applications.

EDIT: Another option to test your keyboard is by creating a boot disc by running RECDISC when you click on Start. Boot your computer from that disc, access the Command Prompt and test your keys.

i'm getting this on my previous computing device while there are bits caught under the keys. you are able to purchase a can with pressurised air in it to bathe below the keys. Or in case you're careful you are able to pull the foremost off, clean under it, and click it lower back on (it purely clicks off and clicks on lower back). or purely blow truly complicated under the foremost. I ought to cut back and paste the v key...do you be conscious of what proportion phrases use the letter v? VERY stressful!! :-)
