Laptop power works but will not charge?

Question

The laptop will run off of the power supply or the battery(the battery life left), but it will not charge. Its says the power adapter can not be determined or something. What does this mean?

If it works of the charger without battery then your battery can no longer hold a charge and requires replacing.

Your battery is dead or dieing

The maker has put a small bit of software to tell you that their battery is about a useful as a chocolate fire guard
