Question:
Laptop keeps making USB noise, how do i stop it?
2010-07-04 02:06:50 UTC
My laptop has been making that noise as if I am plugging and unplugging a USB into my laptop, except I have nothing plugged into it. It just started today and it goes off every minute. It's super annoying, but I have no idea whats wrong with it. First I thought it was my mouse but it still does the sound when my mouse isn't even plugged in.

Anyone know whats wrong with it? And what I should do? I've had my laptop for I think almost 3 years so no warranty.

&it's the noise that let's you know when you plug/unplug any USB thing into the USB port. pretty sure most of you know what i'm talking about.

(I typing this response in your original question but, you deleted it before I could post it!)

I'm not sure what went wrong but I know how to fix it.

Quick fix (if you want to disable the sound, but won't play when you plug a device in)

Go to Start>Control Panel>Hardware and Sound. Under the "Sound" category select "Change system sounds." On the new window scroll to "Device Connect" and "Device Disconnect" and change them to "(None)" in the expanded list left of the "Test" button. Then click "Ok" to apply the changes.

Long fix (if you want to fix the sound and have it play when you plug a device in)

Go to Start>Control Panel>System Security. Under the "System" category click and open Device Manager. In Device Manger select and expand "Sound, video and game controllers" Find the driver for your speaker then disable it reboot your computer, then enable it and reboot again. Test to see if the sound works correctly. If the sound still persists then uninstall the driver for your speaker in Device Manager reboot your computer and have Windows automatically reinstall the driver when it boots up. Test again to see if the sound is fixed.

It simply means something is initiating a plug in or unplug. You may not be doing anything but the COMPUTER THINKS you are doing that. Does the computer flicker and make that noise? Maybe it is installing/reading the monitor and then you get the unplugged noise when it gets interrupted. (Like a Device Driver) Maybe you have issues with a USB port and everytime you hook up a camera it keeps getting disconnected while you look up your pictures. Maybe it is with CD Drive?

There could be a short in a USB port where there is a slight connection for power being made. Many things can cause this. The sound is a sign of it happening.

Download TuneUp Utilites and run a "1-click Maintenance" on your computer. When the scan is finished, select "Correct Problems" and restart your computer. The problem should be gone. I would also suggest you run "Malwarebytes" on your computer. This is the toughest malware remover on the internet and is updated multiple times daily. Start with TuneUp Utilities and work your way from there. If you have further problems, e-mail me at cbskywarn@aol.com and I'll help you out. When you go to download TuneUp Utilites, you will have to enter your e-mail address, but it's just so they can see how many people actually use their program.

See if theres a unfastened USB related. it might desire to be uncomplicated. You or somebody might have in basic terms linked the sound with yet another app on the laptop via mistake. you are able to positioned any sound you choose on any stream or utility. bypass to administration panel, then sounds. discover the sound and see what its linked with.
