Ok, my dell is about to go kaput. I'm thinking about getting an IBM thinkpad. Does anyone have anything good to say about the brand or if not, can you recommend another computer brand. Preferably not a mac.

The new breed of Dell Laptops are awesome. I have a 1558 from Dell i7, 4gb Ram, and the thing is awesome. I would not recommend IBM. I run a computer repair business and they are generally pieces of crap. They are good for business use but that's about it.

IBM stopped making the Thinkpad in 2004 when they sold their PC division to Lenovo. Actually, IBM has ceased producing all PCs several years before the sale and had contracted Lenovo to build the Thinkpad and IBM's other PCs for them. If your thinking about getting an IBM Thinkpad, you'll be getting a used laptop that is at least 6 years old, but you can buy a new Lenovo Thinkpad. I personally would buy another Dell.

IBM no longer manufactures notebooks and desktop pcs, but only servers and softwares.

I had a thinkpad for 15 years, it's an excellent pc.

i could propose against it, the device does no longer meet the overall performance standards of abode windows 7 to warrant the improve. save abode windows XP on it and spend the money on upgrading it to 1GB of memory somewhat.
