Question about mac laptop and home folder?

Hey guys I just got a mac laptop a few days ago and am still having a problem, I can't seem to find a home folder in the finder sidebar, it wasn't there when i first started using my mac either, I also am trying to locate the user folder, and it is hidden as I'm using the new lion OS system, and they hid it, i know how to unhide it but I keep putting chflags nohidden /Library but nothing seems to happen, my main concern is that I can't find my home folder icon, which so many people seem to have but me.

This is the os I'm using Mac OS X Lion 10.7.2 (11C74) please help me find my home folder and unhide my user folder. Im new to macs but really would like to have those two folders available. Also in the documents folder I have only one file named about stacks am I supposed to have anything else in there?

Your home folder is your user folder--they're the same thing. To put it in the sidebar, open Finder-->Preferences-->Sidebar tab and check the home folder.



You mention the Library folder but don't explicitly say that you need to have it unhidden. The unhide command for the user Library folder (there is also a system level Library folder) would need to reference ~/Library (~ is shorthand for the home folder.)



The Documents folder is a place to save your personal documents (similar to My Documents on a Windows box.) It would be (close to) empty on a new laptop.

Stop messing with things you do not understand or you will mess it up completely.



Have you opened the Finder's Preferences (from the Finder menu) and ticked the little house to appear in the sidebar?



From the top level of the hard disc you will find the Users folder.



You do not need to get into your Library folder. But if you must... hold down the alt key and select the (hidden from idiot users who keep screwing things up and then blaming Apple) Library from the Finder's Go menu.

All the documents you have saved in there. Perhaps they have hidden them too.

hi, nicely the respond is amazingly undemanding.... Macbook is a thank you to pass because of the fact it extremely is nice, difficulty-free to apply, the working device isn't homestead windows hence les crashing subject concerns and virus subject concerns and spyware subject concerns. See the ingredient is most of the people who write viruses, and stuff have and use mac.. :-) so as that they cant create viruses that kills their own device.. :-) yet basically what i'm asserting is Definately HP would be greater affordable for comparable or greater of the specs besides the undeniable fact that it basically boils right down to which working device is greater suited and for this reason making the laptop average greater suited.. very final answer is Mac.. Mac os X is a much greater suited working device then homestead windows (any of the homestead windows along with vista) Mac comes with particularly much less ram then hp becuase it doesnt want it the form of technique working on a mac at a given time are a procedures decrease than what homestead windows runs. To basically load up the homestead windows it opens and runs almost 2000 technique while in Mac its not even one hundred. hence your laptop starts off up swifter responses swifter its basically a rapid international of its own.. :-) I easily have used plently of Laptops approximately 5 of them have been homestead windows and that i moved directly to a macbook professional and god i like it.. shall we placed it this way i will open each and all the courses i ahve in my macbook all on the comparable time and nevertheless not have a lag time or freeze up my mac.. attempt doing that with a HP hahaha..
