Okay, so this is about my brother's computer. It seems to randomly freeze for no reason, typically when using the internet. I thought it may have been a problem regarding Internet Explorer, and installed Firefox seeing as I've had better results using it, and nothing. I've done a full scan using Mcafee in safe mode because its the only way it will not freeze and it found nothing. I have no idea what this could be. Also, when it freezes, at first I can still move the cursor, but the computer is unresponsive and afterwards it is completely frozen, figured that might help. Any ideas or suggestions for where to start would be nice.

There a several reasons why your computer is freezing. First question is when was the last time you cleaned your registry. Having a corrupted registry can cause a whole host of errors and problems. Freezing up is one of them. If you have a lot of unnecessary registry keys that are hogging up your computer resources. Your computer is bound to choke. Scan your registry with a good registry cleaner. If you pull up more than 20 errors or duplication, clean your registry.

2. Depending on your RAM specs and your computer usage. This could also be a the issue. Having an insufficient amount of free space does not allow your RAM to function properly. If you are using a lot of RAM by net surfing or other activities without enough empty space your will get freezes. You don't need to buy new RAM but you should increase your free space by removing unnecessary data and perhaps increasing your virtual memory. The below link will show you how.

3. Spyware could be the culprit, so do a scan and see if your computer is infected.

4. Another area is a hardware drivers. This could be the problem if new hardware has been added to the system. So, the drivers should still be up to date. So try the first two suggestion and see if you can get your computer to stop freezing.

Check your drivers. Hope this helps.

5. Lastly, check the dust buildup on the fan to make sure you system is cooling properly

there's more than likely viruses in there and trojans (trojans are worse than viruses, the multiply each time you turn the computer on and steels information in and through your computer and can put things on your computer that you HAVE to click on and gets even more into the system)

If there's a histpry of going to porn sites then there's your problem. So many out there have so much stuff that going one time can cause several hours of work of deleting virues from your computer. If its a habit then it needs to stop or the computer is going to fry and either you'll need a new hardrive all together or a brand new computer. If going to those sites won't stop, then he's screwed.

Trojans will have to be deleted manually- which can take to an hour to several days....a simple scanner won't work, inless you buy one that is expensive...and even then you'll most likely still go in manually

There are several primary areas that could be causing your computer to freeze. The most likely reason is that Corruption within your registry keys, registry classes, and registry settings.Any time you make a change to any of your computers settings and surfing online, they are stored and updated in the registry.Over time, the registry can grow to enormous proportions and full of junk and errors. So if you run a program,it will take a long time to required registry file and sometime it cant find its registry files since regsitry errors and then it has to sit there. So your computer will freeze.

You need to run a self diagnostic program called regsitry cleaner. This program is very very useful,it can fix regsitry errors, clean registry remnant, corrupt files and temp files in a few minutes. Then give you a bran-new and high-speed computer. There are collection and comparison of top rated registry cleaner:

I did the same thing, and realized that it was the motherboard of the computer. So i took it to Geek Squad and they are looking at it Right now. If you cant afford that, then take it to somewhere cheaper, or just buy a new one.
