I want to factory restore my hp laptop to when I first bought it. I DO NOT WANT TO UNINSTALL WINDOWS THOUGH! I want to wipe everything off my laptop so when I turn it on it comes up with the new user screen. I HAVE ALREADY TRIED TURNING IT OFF AND PRESSING F10 AND F11 IT DOESN'T WORK. Ok now this is the good part. On system restore it says "Return your computer to factory condition: This option will delete everything on your computer and replace it with a recovery image provided by your computers manufacturer. Afterward, you can restore your files from backup. Any programs you've installed will need to be re-installed using the originla installation disks" IS THIS THE RIGHT OPTION? OR WILL THIS OPTION REMOVE WINDOWS 7 AS WELL?

Hi Amicia,

Yes using that option will restore it to exact condition how it was when you first switched on your laptop. Remember, your files are going to get erased and you need to copy them over.

You must re-install everything IF you want to go back to Ex-Factory stage. Selecting "Return your computer to factory condition: This option will delete everything on your computer and replace it with a recovery image provided by your computers manufacturer. Afterward, you can restore your files from backup. Any programs you've installed will need to be re-installed using the originla installation disks" is the right way to do it.

Backup all your data first before doing this step!

Your recovery will have the Window 7 OS re-installed for you, so don't worry!

Hope this helps

That's the option you are looking for. I suggest that you do it that way. Don't worry, it won't wipe out your Windows OS.

In the worst case scenario, you can download a genuine/clean Windows 7 OS installer for free from a Microsoft-authorized website, but make sure you can still read the product key written on the sticker at the back of your computer. You need that to reactivate the OS.

If you need the link, ask another question but make sure you tell us what version (32 or 64-bit) and edition (Starter, Home Basic, Home Premium, Professional or Ultimate) you need so we don't have to beat around the bush listing all possible links. There are nine all in all.

Also, be ready to download in advance the drivers for your laptop in case some hardware are not readily recognized by the Windows installer and no generic drivers work. Save the drivers to a flash drive or DVD so you don't lose them when you reformat the hard drive.

That is the right option, although it sounds like you may have to use a set of disks, or a backup, as the recovery partition is either damaged or missing.

Try that option, even if it doesn't work without disks or a backup, you will still have the option to return to your existing system☺
