I currently have a Dell Inspiron 6000 and I have had it for almost 4 years. It has been slowly going downhill (doesn't recognize battery, getting slower...) For a sort of graduation present for myself, I am looking around for a new laptop. I am sort of looking for some certain requirements. I am a designer and I constantly use programs such as Photoshop, Illustrator and InDesign. I also need a computer that can handle programs like Solidworks, Rhino and Alias. If anyone has any sort of suggestions and/or links. It would be helpful. In the end I think I will go towards a refurbished model to cut on costs.

If you have $2000 to spend, it will be hard to beat the 19" Pre-dell alienware Aurora mALX

Especially as you are a designer with requirements.

Not everyone has two grand burning a hole in their pocket though. The best part is that now that you are in the market, just about any $1000 laptop will handle what you want to do, and comfortably.

I would suggest spending some time looking at what Toshiba has to offer in the Satellite line and the Qosmio line. I find personally that Toshiba is a very dependable brand, especially considering how long they have been making laptops (First to make a PC laptop, IBM based system in 1985, first to add an optical drive to a laptop, first to add a DVD drive to a laptop, etc.). Really you should be happy with the performance, durability and security of any Toshiba you purchase.

Avoid anything HP. Out of the factory, the DV9000 series are showing up left and right with left hinge problems. They are flimsy. I've seen way too many with motherboard problems, especially right after the default 1 year warranty ends.

Sonys are just too overpriced for what you get.

And of course, you can't really go wrong with a Mac. Any... Mac.

I would recommend getting a Tablet or Touch Screen Laptop. Many vendors make them. The link that I list below is from a software company named Omnicognic. They make have some tablet software so their site displays pictures and direct links to various tablet vendors. For drawing or writing I prefer something like Motion Computing because they write really natural but they are very expensive. Right now I'm using an HP Tablet and it works really well for everything I need. I do some photoshop but I use mine mainly for software development and database work. Hope this helps!

Ur a student on the cheap. U choose a unit that has ultimate fee for funds. AMD chipsets are a thank you to choose for u. I surprisingly propose HP 6535B. different laptops are greater suitable in specs yet larger in value. This computing gadget is powerful adequate and could not destroy the economic enterprise. Plus it quite is solidly outfitted and would take some abuse. as nicely if u destroy it or it gets stolen it won't decrease u to tears. If u have the money nevertheless i'd choose for a ThinkPad. different concepts are Dell's selection line. in basic terms business enterprise contraptions will come preinstalled with XP as an selection. I hate Vista too.
