Okay, not really an emergency, but normally my questons don't get answerd, so I had to get you on here some how.

My Compaq 1200 laptop with Window ME when I turned it on today it was being REALLY wierd, the normal applications won't open, I don't have a start menu, I can't even see any icons unless I go to safe mode. I can view floders on the side by "Explore"ing no programs will open, NOTHING HAPPENS!!!!

O yea, it says when I open a folder it says "Your current security setting prohibit ActiveX controls on this page. As a result your page may not display corectly."

So I need one of the following:

1. A BUNCH of options of what to do, like EVERYTHING you can think of. EVERYTHING!!!!!!!

Or a site I can download ME for free so then I can reinstall it. (I don't have anything important on the computer)

PLEASE HELP!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

If you are ok in Safe Mode it obviously means that something in normal mode is causing your problems. Spyware perhaps?

Free - For starters, download, update and run a full scan using SuperAntiSpyware (SAS) http://www.superantispyware.com/

SAS is an exceptionally easy to use application that will remove the majority of difficult Trojans and Worms, not just the easy ones. In addition it has the ability to remove Vundo and Smitfraud infections. SAS can lock your home page to prevent browser hi-jacking attempts.

If possible it is recommended that you load SAS in normal mode but run it in Safe Mode. Safe Mode can be started by continually pressing F8 during the boot sequence. If you are badly infected you might need to run SAS more than once to help clean your system. Afterwards if the only infections now being shown are in System Restore, once you are completely satisfied that you can boot normally, you can either delete the infected restore points manually, or temporarily turn off System Restore to purge the files.

Assuming you have some real awkward infections that persist even after trying all the above I suggest you download a dedicated Smitfraud removal program from:

http://www.afterdawn.com/software/desktop_software/desktop_security/smitfraudfix.cfm

If possible run in Safe Mode.

Likewise the dedicated VundoFix:

http://vundofix.atribune.org/

Good luck & safe surfing.

Seems like you downloaded something in your PC thats causing this. The best way is to go in Windows ME on safemode. Go to Start --> Run, type msconfig and hit OK Button. when you see the "System Configuration Utility" go to the "Start up" tab. View the programs that are installed in your computer. DON'T START DELETING THEM ! These are programs that are initialized when you boot (turn on) your PC/Laptop. Try to evaluate each program name running. by reading the "Command" column and the "Path" to see if you really need these. Programs such as Yahoo messengers/ msn messengers you can delete from the list. DONOT DELETE SOMETHING YOU DON'T UNDERSTAND. The reaon I'm telling you this is that there is something that you have downloaded that is initialized at startup and causes your PC to act funny. When you edit this list and hit OK the PC might ask you restart, do that. If the program that was causing this issue is deleted then when you restart with no issues you'll see a message box telling you something like "you're operating with limited startup programs -- something" check the box to say "Don't show me this message" again and hit OK. Hopefully this helps! Just a note.. Get Windows Xp, ME was a an excuse of an Operating system. Worse windows ever!
