I know Ubuntu was created by Linux and you can get free support from their forum on line. Good luck.

First determine your bios and see what yr it was once written ( 1998 ) considering that I downloaded the 8.04 and it is going to no longer set up on any computer with a bios written earlier than 2000. So replace ( FLASH ) your bios and try to install it once more it must work without a quandary.

forget about modeset it's not your problem.

A kernel compiled with PAE support just won't run without it.

The processor might actually support it, try to dig into your BIOS option and try to find a way to enable PAE.

(nx bit, memory hole, ...)

You may also want to try to find an image or disto with a non-pae kernel.

provides a few option (I like the xubuntu suggestion myself)
