speed is not really a big issue if all you are going to do is use office based programs. The office programs are not taxing to most computer systems including netbooks. The big issue is the operating system on your netbook. If your school uses microsoft office programs definitely purchase the windows xp netbook. That way you will be able to install microsoft office 2007 onto the netbook and do your school work. The big problem I have heard about with netbooks is that they do not allow video sites like youtube to run correctly they lag and are very slow to show the video if they even can. Also, check with your school book store before you purchase your copy of office they have been selling office 2007 complete for less than you can buy it at best buy for just the student/teacher editions.

I've been looking into getting an HP DM3



It's nice eee pc's do get fingerprints all over them they are severly wanting in the Horsepower department. And they are very cheaply made while the battery life is increadibly overated.

I only got like 3 hours or surfing the net out of mine

Now this on the other hand is an increadibly small notebook, Brushed magnesium alloy case, Athalon neo x2 @ 1.6 generally it comes with 4gb ram 320 Hdd, Win 7, Bluetooth, b,g,n wireless, only hang up is it doesn't have an optical drive but neither does a netbook.



Anyway I like it price is steep next to a netbook put next to a compact laptop the price is actually spot on especially seeing the magnesium case and other features it has.



Oh yeah almost forgot this will actually play some decent games not necessarily on high settings but decent enough
