I own an ASUS D1 series portable computer. Just recently the LCD screen suddenly turns off and no hard disk activity is present as if my unit freezes. The power is still on though and the processor fan still running. It's not because of the power settings... I already checked that. When I reset the unit everything becomes fine but after certain minutes my unit freezes again, LCD turns blank, and my unit becomes unresponsive. I've tried reseting multiple times but after 3, 4, 6 minutes it happens again. It's also not a virus. Can someone help me with this?

It's one of three possibilities:

1) Overheat. Most likely.

2) Virus.

3) Bad battery unit. Easiest to test. Remove the battery and see if the symptoms still occur.

Try changing the Power Saving settings, it sounds like these are active. When these are active, your computer will go into a hibernation mode after being idle for a few minutes. Try pushing the power button when this happens, that might be the way to AWAKEN the computer after hibernation has kicked in.

Your computer may be entering the standby mode. Check it using Power options in the control panel. Or choose minimum power saving in the BIOS.

Cool off laptop by an inexpensive Wal-Mart fan. Press Alt+Ctrl+Delete to check any strange hacker program showes up before it turns off.

check your power management settings. your monitor may set to turnoff after few minutes then your hard drive is set to standby. right click on the desktop then click properties\screensaver\power then customize your settings.
