Question:
Gateway laptops or dell?

I'm torn between two options. I was going to get the Dell Inspiron 1525 that starts at $499. However, I needed more memory and a bigger hard-drive (and a charger since they charge you for one) which bumped the price up to about $600.

Then I was looking at a gateway laptop (the M-1525) which starts at $899 then is discounted $250 so it now starts at $649. This laptop comes with the memory and disk space that I need already. I think it also comes with an AC charger for free and thats nice (better than dell's 30 dollar one atleast). I have a $50 off coupon too, so that would make it about $600 dollars as well.

I'm more leaning towards the gateway laptop because it was originally $899 anyways and it seems to have better components. So which should I choose?

*Shipping is $49 for both sellers
Any input is appreciated!

I don't know much about the Gateway but I would not recommend Dell.

We just ordered and received a Dell Inspiron for my son's birthday. It arrived with a hardware defect.

Dell customer service has been a nightmare. It took me an entire day, dozen phone calls, several emails, several chat sessions just to get them to accept a product return for refund within their own refund policies.

Also - have you considered Toshiba? I've owned several Satellites and have been very pleased.

check out this one http://www.tigerdirect.com/applications/SearchTools/item-details.asp?EdpNo=3762945&CatId=927

its an amazing deal. dedicated graphics, 2 gigs of ram, 250 gig hard drive... 600$.

Its refurbished but I actually prefer those. they have been completely checked over by the company so its very rare to find something wrong with them.

Also, this is a gateway, I wouldn't go for a dell, my experience is that they cut to many corners with the memory and video capabilities.

Gateway has been around for a long time and has a generally good reputation. If their support is good, I'd go for it.

Also check out included software; if one of them gives you a package which works better for you, ib may bias your decision. Good hunting!

i like IBM. it is fairly sturdy and that i do no longer could play around with restoration disks and installation disks. yet what i will't understand is why they do no longer % to alter the seem of their laptops... hmm i think it is an indicator or an id...
