Question:
Mac vs. PC?
2008-01-28 15:07:27 UTC
Which do you think is better?
I recently obtained a mac (OS X Tiger) and it freezes all the time. It runs really slow and I really hate it. I'm getting a laptop now and don't know what to pick.

Was my mac just a dud?
What if it happens again?
What should I do?

---Thanks

PC....Mac is overpriced.

If you want to use the Mac operating system, that's fine, you don't have to use windows on a PC. It's true that the MAC Operating System has less problems and bugs than windows, so if that's what u want, just put the MAC OS on the PC after u buy it. It will still work out cheaper.

We are talking about hardware here, not software. And as far as that's concerned, u can get mac's hardware equivalent on a PC for less.

And for the people talking about web browsers, be serious. U can choose the browser u want!

ok i am a person with a mix belife i think both are equaly as good here are the down falls of a pc first off they do get virus much more then a mac however a pc has more programs you can run then a mac however i belive a mac can have better graphic capable so i think they both have there place but if you have a problem with your MAC you can always see if you have a Apple store in your area and set up a oppointment with there techies you may be surprised how simple the problem is however if something gos wrong with a pc i would advice againt taking it to Best buy if you have problems with it sadly enough otherwise make sure your cpu is on a extended warrenty apple will cover that for a a few years that way and it would most likely cover the cost of the repair

Keep your Mac, and fix the problem.

Which Mac do you have? How much RAM? Are you running a lot of applications or large files at the same time?

I can just about promise you, your Mac is fine, but the user might not know what they're doing.

For example, are you shutting off the application correctly? On a Mac, you have to "Quit" the application. Clicking the window closed doesn't shut down the application. Look in the dock, how many little icons have a small black triangle under them? It means those applications are active. Too many, and if you don't have enough RAM, it will bog down.

Open your disc utility, and do a permissions repair.

But from what you're describing, you don't have enough RAM, and are running too many apps at the same time.

i personally have a mac, and i never had any problems that lasted over the period of a few days. And with the new Mac OS X Leopard system around, I would say, buy a mac.

Also, the new Mac Book Air is probably the hottest computer in the world, but with that price... I'll just say a Mac Book pro would do the job.

Its up to you. Mac is very user friendly and normally has very little bugs. You can try out another one. But its up to you. Pcs are a little more for gamers and for people that know what they are doing.

PCs are not hard to use and odds are you probably already know how they work. Macs are easy to use but very limited.

The freezing in your last mac was probably just a dud or some reason. Like bad hardware. But I would choose a Pc.

go with a mac workstation. the recent OS X "Leopard" can do way extra advantageous than vista anyhow, and there are video games attainable for mac. Oct. twenty 6th i'm making plans on paying for the recent iMac for $1199 if it comes pre put in wth leopard. anyhow, a mac is lots extra good than a workstation, i take advantage of them the two interior an identical day (macs in school, my workstation at abode) and that i admire mac because of the fact the OS isn't a POS. abode windows freezes each and all of the time and continuously is liable to viruses that would even ruin your no longer easycontinual. Mac's are based on the unix OS, a single kernel working equipment, which makes them lots much less vulnerable. in case you think of roughly it, mac is a extra effective purchase than workstation, valuable it value slightly extra advantageous than a workstation, yet interior the top it could even out. purchase a webcam, anti virus, probably spend money repairing stupid errors on your workstation, upload some desent application and you likely spent extra advantageous than that on a workstation, once you will possibly have basically bought a mac. And the OS will take a pair of day to examine if that, it fairly is lots extra user-friendly to function than a workstation. And apple has a help menu interior the menu bar that has workstation to Mac translations (all classes=macintosh hd, etc.)

Since PC is more popular, it is compatible with more software and devices than Mac, so you can do a lot more with a PC than you can with a Mac. Of course, the downside is that the popularity of PC also attracts more viruses and malware.

If your the sort of person who uses a computer a lot and knows how to take care of it, then go with a PC. If you only use computers for documents and web surfing than you're better off with a Mac.

my Mac is faster and ok for video-making but it doesnt have very suprising features. but mac has a good default browser organized, tabs are clean...

Windows has very elaborate webs of features pretty complex but i got the hang of it i think win, media player is better trhan itunes and wiindows has internet explorer witch is not a well organized tab-browser. windows is slow if u have a lot of stuff on it like viruses and downloads and crap but mac doesnt have windows task manager.
