I've always been a desktop person...... I just got my first laptop with Windows 7 on it.

1. When I get finished with what I'm doing, should I tell the computer to shut down Windows or will it shut down automatically when I close the lid?

2. It came preloaded with a trial of Office 2007 Home Edition. I want to install Office Professional Edition. I'm guessing I uninstall the Home Edition through the control panel & then install Professional. Is that correct?

3. I have a laser printer that's connected by a cable to my desktop. What do I need to do in order to make it so I can print wirelessly from my laptop?

Thanks!

Congagulations,

1. set your Lid settings to Shut down when you close it...Go to control panel, power options.

2.You need to purchase the Licence from microsoft by clicking on the link offered to activate..else you can purchase a new licenced media Kit then install afresh.

3.You need to purchase a PCI Wireless card from then install it on your desktop, that will enable it communicate through wireless with your laptop, that way you will print properly.

1. If you want to shut down, you must instruct your laptop explicitly via Start button > Shut down. However, shutting down (and subsequently, when you next want to use your laptop,) and bootup take time. If you're only gonna get a quick cup of coffee, you probably don't want to shut down (you waste about an extra 30 seconds getting your laptop to life), compared to closing the lid (standby. Open the lid, and in less than five seconds you should be ready to roll).

2. That should be correct. In general, you shouldn't keep trial versions / inferior versions of software you already have.

3. That depends. If your laser printer supports wireless capability, configure it so that it can work with your computer (consult your manual; due to the thousands of brands of printers out there, I can't help with this specific point). Then set up your (now-wireless) printer from your laptop as you would any other printer from the Control Panel.

Hope this helps!

1. I suggest putting the laptop into hibernation. It uses 3% power & boots up in under 20 seconds. It will resume everything you were doing as if you didnt shut it off at all.

2. You dont need to un-install it. When you install the new version, it will uninstall the trial as part of the installation process.

3. I cant help you with that one.

1. it should shut down when closing the lid, but i always hit start and shut down. sometimes, some program will hang. so i wanted to know everything was right.

2. might beable to install newer version over the old one, check ms office site faq.

3. printer should work with cd software installed, i would check makers web site, to get it right.

others may know more on all.

laptop is much the same as desktop. only less room inside.

1. Depends on how it is setup.

2. Make sure you have a CD/DVD drive to install the new version from.

3. It has to be a wireless printer, or connected directly to the laptop!

Having a working laptop or pc on your mattress or carpeting in continually a undesirable theory. those the two impead air bypass and seize warmth. Having it on you lap we could multiple that warmth get away and is a little extra advantageous. The cooler your pc is the extra advantageous it runs, continually. Extreame warmth, chilly and electric powered marvel is the quickest thank you to wreck a working laptop or pc.

To the first question. In power option, there are options on how your laptop will behave when you close the monitor and when you push the power button. Changing the option of. 'when i press power button' to 'ask me what to do' is the first one that you should do. Because laptops usually turns off itself when power button is pressed without noticing you.
