I have an HP G60-120US Notebook PC and the volume controls are on the + and - buttons on my numeric keyboard. When I push them nothing happens, any suggestions?

Likely the sound needs configuring. You need to do this from the Control Panel folder, choosing the "sound/multimedia" icon. Make sure none of its settings are not muted in the settings there.
